So I saw a house today that had some cheap flipper elements to it including peel and stick tiles on the kitchen floor. Sorry. That was pretty gruesome. The problem is that the walls and lower cabinets are not at square angles. So installing plank type flooring might be tricky both in doing it and aligning to nearby rooms. Sheet vinyl might have worked but where do you even find that in the 2020s.

Anyone have ideas of how to upgrade rationally?

They still make sheet vinyl, and it's actually a very good floor choice, particularly in kitchens.

Most other plank flooring can be miter cut if that's what you really want.

Sheet vinyl has come a long way. Durable and good looking. Inexpensive to have ripped up and replaced. Many will lay it right over old sheet product.

If the “question” was- “is sheet flooring is still around?” - the answer is yes!

“Upgrading rationally”??? Is that a trick question!!!?

Go to a store???? Didn't you know everything you need is available on the Internet. Just order it online and have it delivered to your door! Groceries, furniture, kid's toys. All delivered by UPS, USPS, FedEx, and a bunch of unlabeled delivery trucks. At least that is the way some of my younger neighbors seem to do it.

But unless some influencer told them where to look or what to buy, they are still in a position of having to make their own decision and that's almost death to them. Anyone can make a purchase online, but how many of them can make a decision on what to but? Unless theirs a home floor influencer or You-Tube star directing them to a specific product, you're asking them to think on their own.

None of that is relevant to my point. ( And obviously it’s sarcasm).

Any person truly researching flooring options ( and I don’t give a crap how old you are it doesn’t matter) will be walking into at least one flooring store to see what the options actually look like. Apparent the OP has not actually put much thought into a floor at this point.

Thank you for confirming that some people can recognize sarcasm! I would have thought that noone would shop for flooring without going in a flooring store but I have known 3 people in the last couple years who did it all online. One was strongly influenced by the COVID issues and reluctantly did it all remotely except for the physical install. The other two shopped and bought their flooring (prefinished wood) had it shipped to them and did the install themselves. So there are some that do it!

No issues with buying online and having it shipped. NOT going in to any actual flooring stores though...to see what various flooring options actually looks like, no matter what the material...that's strange.

I shopped for over two years...had a stack of flooring samples -all ordered online - that you would not believe. I went in every flooring store here, at least twice LOL. Some more.
