Don't know what area you're in, but I've never had a problem finding a servicable gas range at the "used appliance" shops in our region.
Many of the new appliance stores that have a delivery service have a relationship with a used store to recycle appliances or to prepare freezers/refrigerators for disposal. So you can call them and find out where they take the old ranges to.
FWIW, Lowe's has a brand new 24" apartment size range/oven in their line-up for around $220 (or, at least it was when I saw one last summer). Can be ordered in propane set-up. You'll probably also find those stoves brand new in catalogues or on the web.
We bought a 50+ year old one ... 4 burner and oven ... at a farm auction last year. Classic green and cream colored. Propane.
Was immaculate, absolutely clean and in perfect servicable condition. We were told that two sisters had it on the farm and it was in daily use until the last one died last year. No chips, nicks, dings, or scratches anywhere ... beautiful!
Paid $15.00. My wife uses it for her wool dyeing projects, and it works great.
From what I've seen in the used stores around here, secondhand ranges like this are readily available. I bought another one of the same vintage two years ago for a rental apartment I was furnishing.

Any of the natural gas stoves can be converted. They are all made the same except for the jetting. There is some really nice stoves made to order that look like 100 year old wood stoves.
