I would LOVE to buy a house with a pool but here in Colorado that's like a needle in a haystack unless you are looking a $million plus houses. If you can find one here, they don't seem to add anything to the price so it's way cheaper than putting one in later. People seem to forget it can be as hot as hell here in the summer.

We bought a house last year in Florida. I refused to buy one with a pool. I have small children and did not want the danger, the liability, the expense or the hassle. Maybe in a few years, when they are older, we'll consider putting on in, but right now, no way. Also, a few years ago, my dh's teenaged nephew almost died in a pool. His best friend did die. I'd like to think my children would be responsible, but things happen that you can't foresee.

Living in the Northeast I think it is a turn-off when looking at a house for various reasons. The main reasons are the insurance, the lack of time you get to use the pool and the fear of having teenagers throwing parties while I am not home!

I grew up with a pool and had countless parties when my parents were out of town. Needless to say I was very lucky nothing every happened!
