Where can I find persimmons in Houston? I just ran out of my supply that I got from someone who knows someone who knows someone who has a persimmon tree. I love persimmons, and they are in season right now. Has anybody seen them at any farmers markets or stores? This year I saved some seeds, and I am going to plant my own dang trees because these things are too hard to find!

A persimmon is a fruit that is generally small and light yellow-orange to dark red-orange in color. These sweet, tangy fruits can be found in the fall at the Midtown Market (farmers market,) which is super close to Midtown Arbor Place in Houston. This market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Also please check the H-Mart at 1302 Blalock

Wowww. Looks like someone is obsessed with persimmons! I'm pretty sure they still have some at Hong Kong supermarket on Bellaire in Chinatown. Actually, any asian market worth its salt should have some (H-Mart, 99market) if they're still in season. Otherwise, you can find places in Cypress where you can do Upick which is cheaper and more fun than buying from store, just google it. There are 2 main kinds of persimmon, the short squat type and the tall heartshaped type. which do you like?

H Mart does have persimmons, as does Central Market. I'll bet that Hong Kong market does, too. Maybe even a couple of Fiestas and HEBs.

God bless you all! Thanks for all the suggestions. I will continue my quest this Saturday when I have time to drive into town from Clear Lake. I have checked the nearby grocery stores. Now that y'all mention Asian markets, I'm pretty sure there is one out here so I need to check that out!

I wasn't aware there were multiple kinds. I always find the taller ones that look similar to an orange tomato. Yes this is becoming an obsession

Houston has a lot of Asian grocery markets. If there is one near you, I bet they will sell them.

If you love persimmons that much, you can try planting them. We have two persimmon trees in our yard and they grow well in Houston. If you just want to buy them, you can try asian markets like all the other post suggested. Whole foods also carry them right now; however, the last two times I bought persimmons from Whole Foods, they were bad, so YMMV.

FYI...Fuyu persimmons are usually considered the sweetest type of persimmons...which is also why they are the most popular.

Jingo's is probably 10 minutes from my job, so I may slip out tomorrow and see what I find.

I had found that link to the place in Tomball, and was contemplating the drive from Webster. Believe me, I was considering it. However I also remember the times I found persimmons in grocery stores they were hit or miss - not always good. So I was trying to decide if it was worth that risk to drive to Tomball.

I'll have to remember the different types of persimmons. That is new to me. And yes I saved some seeds. I was just researching how to winterize the seeds so they are exposed to a degree of cold in your refrigerator. But it may take years to produce fruit, so in the meantime I have to find a regular supplier
