I think diamond lanes on the HOV are for carpools but I believe the diamond lanes downtown are for buses and right turns only (not 100% though - I'll have to look at the signs tomorrow).

I drove past one near the downtown Crowne Plaza today that said 'carpools' on it. Perhaps that area delineats the change?

I suggest the OP looks at the sign where his better half was stopped- if it says carpool then they presumably qualify as one-----till he got out of the vehicle!

if i'm not mistaken...the far right "diamond" lane is for buses and right turns only....then the lane next to that one is an "hov" lane....those signs are posted on the stop light arms if i'm not mistaken....

From the quick research that I have done it will be a losing battle. My in law has a traffic attorney that could take care of this for a lower fee than the fine.

Just ruminatin' here... I'm no lawyer.

I would think if you could prove you worked in that building, and the address of the building is the same as the street/block # of the ticket, you could convince a judge of what happened--that your wife dropped you off, and literally before she could do anything, a ticket was issued. I would think you stand a decent chance of getting it thrown out.

If the ticket was issued anywhere but the actual block where you work, no such luck probably.

Perhaps the ticket was because you are not supposed to stop in the diamond lane for a drop off.....perhaps there is a driveway or a side of the bldg. where drop offs are okay but not the diamond lane?

Ask for a jury trial. Say you were turning right at the next intersection. Easy to get dropped. By yourself. If you loose, appeal it. Then it will definitely be dropped after endless threats by Metro.

thank god they are enforcing this, I carpool in the morning on and on Travis St. there are always single douchebags in their SUVS crowding up the HOV lane, good riddance that they are finally enforcing this
