I've been meaning to ask this for 2 yrs now, lol. What the heck is up with those black birds that take over the power lines all over Houston around this time of year? We were in Chinatown on Monday and my mom & I got the serious skin crawls as we looked at the birds perched on what looked like every high wire, roof line & high perch they could find. It was like something out of The Birds!

Geez... I know.. I drive Bay Area Blvd and 45 all the time. Black birds all over there!!

I never really gave all those birds a thought-- it was just something you commonly see in places around here. Those blackbirds are probably
grackles .
Same go for Mexican freetail bats flying around (all rubbery-like) just before sunset in the summer.

I was trying to explain to my 3.5 y/o kid about the different seasons and how in winter the birds migrate, etc, etc...but then we drove by an intersection on WestPark where there were a bunch of those black birds! she got so worried b/c "poor little birds are getting cold and have no coat on". The part I forgot to mention is our winter here in Houston is pretty mild. LOL.

Haha, I used to say the exact same thing, "The Birds". They line all the lamp extensions, powerlines, like an army and they poop everywhere. They are Grackles as someone said. I hate them.

I actually really like them. I don't like the poop, but there is something about the Galleria area at Christmastime with all those grackles calling. Crap, I think I just miss Houston LOL.

Yeah, I have noticed that also. If you are waiting at the light and watch - you will see them all jockeying for position - all about one bird width apart from each other. I guess they have their personal space like humans.

Hah-hah...their own personal parking spots. I think that's what makes it eerie for me - they look so uniform.
I figured it had to do with bird migration for the winter but I find it interesting that they seem to congregate only in certain areas of town.
