Yeah I know I need a new doctor, but for the past 3 years here; my allergies have never been a problem for me in Houston.

Now, a few days before the next allergy season, have a teaspoon of honey every morning will really help to reduce your allergy. If you do that, your allergy will be significantly lessened.
Yep, my family takes daily "doses" of local honey & it helpes clear up allergies. Something to do with local bee's making honey that contains local pollen - and this helps build immunities to local allergies.

We're also an asthma family & it helps with asthma symptoms triggered by allergies. If we miss a few weeks of honey, someone is wheezing & on the nebulizer machine with albuteral & steroids.

But it's so important to remember, no honey for babies under one year!!

MN: 86 proof is whiskey. My Grandfather swears by it.

Lizzy - which local honey do you use & where do you buy it? That is just fascinating. I'm definitely willing to try!

It really is fascinating Sam! My favorite place to get regional honey is up at the farmers market in Hempstead. I go there because it's a relaxing drive & a fun market for the kids. Rice University has a farmers market a few times a week & they have a vendors with local organic honey. I *think* Whole Foods sells a few local honey brands.

I am pretty sure I am a professional allergy sufferer if there ever was such a title. I have such a bad reaction to even seasonal allergies (cats will hospitalize me) that I am required to carry an epi pen. When I was re-tested a few years back, I got something like 168 injections and I was allergic to about 162 of the things. Good times huh?

I have learned this: Allergy shots do help, but it takes time to let it build up. I have been doing them for over 3 years now and now just give them to myself at home, so I do not have to go there every week. The latest and greatest allergy med is called Xyzal. I love this stuff. And I only take it as needed, which might be once a week or when I know I will be anywhere near a cat or someone who owns a cat.

The honey thing works as I understand it, but I do not care for honey much so....

During ragweed season (fall) which is for me the worst, stay away from banana, melon, walnut, pecan and dairy products. It can actually make your symptoms worse.

Lastly working out INDOORS actually helps with my symptoms ALOT. I run or walk on the treadmill at least 4 days a week and I can totally notice that I am better able to breathe on those days.

If in Houston and you need an ENT with a full allergy clinic, check here: http://www.rosewood-ent.com/ I go to Dr. Franklin.

They have a whole team of doctors and can get people in quickly. I hope everyone feels better!
