I read an article today about how over the past decade, Houston closed the gap between it and Chicago (CSA). Chicago shrunk to 2.7 million and Houston grew to 2.1 million (in the city).

Maybe you people should focus on passing the Boston, Dallas, Bay Area and DC CSA's before thinking about Chicago's. Also, Houston will never have the city feel of Chicago even when it's technically a larger city.

The talk is only about passing the Chicago proper/city limit population only. Not the M.S.A. or the C.S.A.

I find the 2.1 million figure for Houston to be somewhat odd. I think they were way under counted.

It was an undercount. Houston also only had a 70% participation rate. So with that logic, there was at least a 30% undercount by April 1st, 2010. That would be 63,000 below the 2.1 million count. I truly believe the city of Houston's true population count is closer to 2.3 million people.

Anyone got the numbers for the Houston area suburbs?

Chicago posters have just been bitter these past few days. At least our city grows and doesn't lose 200,000 people in a decade, if you want to go there...

Considering how many Illegals are here, that's an understatement lol.

Personally, I have nothing to be bitter about. I have a decent paying job and live in one of thetop cities in this country. I'm just tired of Chicago being brought up in every thread about Houston. Plus, with Houston's gigantic land boudaries there is PLENTY of room for growth.

Folks from Houston are just concerned about how many people they can put in the 579 square mile city. Things like transit, quality growth, walkability, etc. aren't really a concern.

Even though Chicago is technically smaller it's safer and progress is being many in many areas where it's needed. Of course, the place has a LONG way to go.

Are you serious? This works both ways, and you don't have to go to the Houston forum...

You have no idea what you're talking about. Your knowledge of Houston is probably at 1% (you do know how much land is in the city limits, so I'll give you 1%).

Chicago safer than Houston? I believe Chicago is the one with a higher crime rate, not Houston. And yes, Chicago has a LONG way to go. People are blinded by all the shiny new highrises there, but forget about the neglected neighborhoods away from the core.
