Alot of people here in the forum do not appreciate a Whataburger as much as us natural born and raised Texans do because it is not what you/they are used to eating on a burger. They prefer mayonnaise and ketchup/catsup and less vegetables on their style of burger. There is nothing wrong with that. It is just not for me. Therefore, I am a believer in to each his own. So that said, I will probably never ever like another fast food burger better than "The True Texas Legend-Whataburger".
If a true Texas Style burger is what you seek, then Beck's Prime is a much better product for fast food burgers. Homegrown fresh mesquite grilled burgers cooked the way you like it. Grilled is much better than fried.

+1 on Cookout--that places has tasty burgers and great milkshakes.

If anyone hasn't tried the Ostrich burger at Fudruckers I highly recommend it. However it is seasonal so the Buffalo burger is a good backup option.

One thing I've learned living in Texas is Texans are extremely loyal to their brands despite their meidocrity. Three that come to mind are Whataburger, Blue Bell and Shiner Bock. Perhaps I should throw in Texans football for good measure?

For what it is, Shiner Bock is not a bad beer IMO and I am not a native.

Not a native either, but Shiner makes some good beers at a Budweiser price point.

Jack in the Box (HQ in San Diego) is great in San Diego. I think it tastes like cr*p around here. The QC and CS of their franchises are awful.
I consider them "fast food". What else would you call them? Certainly not "fine dining" establishments and neither one is "fast".

And frankly, I actively disliked Five Guys (both times). I was "meh" on Smashburger. Ok if that's all you can get. Certainly a cut above McDonalds/Jack/Burger King.

You can not be serious in calling Whataburger and Blue Bell mediocre! Unbelievable! That is blasphemy! Sacrilege! Blue Bell Ice Cream Really Is The Best Ice Cream In The Country!
