most comments are "how can a father/mother do this to their child" unfortunately the answer is apparently very easily. it is atrocious how many kids get killed by their families here in Texas accidental (i.e. ignorance is to blame) or otherwise.

children with special needs are a lot more likely to be abused and neglected. you can say that is due to a lot of different factors, but if you know a special needs child *I* would look after that child/check up on them if they were a family member or not. child abuse is OUR problem as a society not a family's. family could think i was nosey I wouldn't care. statistically there are neighbors, friends and teachers who had suspicions and didnt act on them. id rather have a clear conscious than a dead child on my mind

very sad

I worked for CPS a few years ago and the stories I have heard are just shocking at times. Still, this story made me gasp. It does matter how common it is, it's still horrible and disgusting. But Testmo is right, we all need to look out for things like this and report to the abuse hotline.

I just really hope it wasn't something that managed to fall through the gaps- as in it was reported to the hotline and for whatever reason, the parents were found to be protective and the child out of danger.

This is just incredibly sad.

I feel bad for the boy, not the family.

So, they couldn't find the teen sister at first and had presumed her missing? The parents didn't know where she was? Something tells me these people are not going to be announced as Parents of the Year.
