I noticed in recent weeks that the water coming into the house has very metallic smell to it. It's not the piping in my house because I can smell it coming right reom the faucet that tees off from the main supply to the house. I guess with the drought and the water leaks around houston, water quality has been affected. Anyone notice this?

We are in a MUD and the North Harris County water authority. Our water smells and tastes so bad we cannot drink it. This has been happening for the past several months. We have always had a Pur filter on the frig, recently put one on the kitchen faucet. It does no good.
It is not my plumbing.
Ours has a bottom of the aquarium or petroleum smell and taste, with an oily aftertaste. I contacted NHCRWA and was told they would flush out the line. We went to dinner in a restaurant in the Humble area. The water tasted the same.

Houston has had consistently poor quality water over the past decade or two (getting worse over time). If you're smart, you'll buy and drink bottled water. Filtering is normally a great idea - and preferable - but there's only so much you can do around Houston unless you have an elaborate water filtering and purification system.

Let's face it, Bubba in Charge doesn't see the value in worrying about water. You can hear him now, "Hell, it looks like water, so daym, just drink the stuff, an' quit yer whinin' ". One of the drawbacks to living in Texas. Forget quality, forget health.

Doesn't much of the water come from Lake Houston? Low lake levels mean extra crud goes through the purification plant.

Thanks for the link. Now I know why 3 water delivery trucks come down my street weekly.
Sorry to see Pensacola and Jacksonville in the top 10. My grandkids are in Tallahassee. I'm calling their momma to check their water now.

I called the city and put in a ticket to get it checked out. I'll post up any results.
