I was a bank employee back then, only 3rd year working in the US and was paid $90k(peanuts if you think about it). I was 27yo when i came to the US, with 5yrs experience
A friend of mine with masters is 28yo now and making 300K, in IT. I make a lot less than him
I dont doubt you have a sportscar wth man?

The average for a family of three in Houston is about 51,000 if I'm not mistaken.
That is only $17K a year per person though.

Not true. There are people who make more without a degree.
It comes down to not what you know but who you know.

Houston, TX Income and Careers

Check the median household income by age
25-44 = $41,986
$10K less than in Texas, and $15K less than in the US

however not the newest census...

maybe most of the time but I.T. is hard to gauge. when I moved to houston i had a higher pay than my managers @130k base. so the they cut my bonus doh
contracting with the 2-3x pay with zero benefits, minimal politics works best in this environment (for me), especially since I'm not tall and white

Thanks.

My current salary is 75616.23 with benefits and 401K. I work about 50 hours a week .

I max out my 401K and ROTH IRA but I feel like I'm not making enough to be successful. I'm cheap. My only debts are student loans and I have a lease with an apartment. It seems really hard to acquire the american dream and owning a house. I don't want to have a mortgage but it seems impossible to buy a house (in the range of 80-110K) without taking a loan with my salary.

^^^ really? You spend all of your $75K and save nothing? How big is your household? ( how many people live off your income? )

I bought my house in my 20s about 10 years ago and I don't think that I was making much more than you at that time (possibly, but I can't remember). I had no problem paying for it though and still enjoyed decent life (i.e. - I was not house poor). I did take a 30 yr mortgage, but with time (as I got more income) I paid more and paid off the house way ahead of 30 years. If you keep your finances in order, this can be easily done.

The key will be to keep your lifestyle the same as you get raises. A few years from now you'll be making 100k, and if you're still living on 70k you'll be saving a nice nest egg in no time.
