Ok, I wanted to see what the going rate is for Christmas Light installation. My husband threaten to divorce me if I make him put up lights this year. 4700 sq ft, 2 story home. I want lights around all of my gutters (front and back of house, approx 2300 sq ft), arch way to my entry, line my driveway and walkway, trim the bark of 5 trees and 8 bushes.

I was quoted $325. Pay 75% after intall and 25% when take down.

I wouldn't even touch it for less than $50 an hour, but of course I don't cut any corners either & am very meticulous with my work.

I think that's a great price! We just had the front and partial sides done on our house (5400 sq ft, 2 stories, varying rooflines) and it was $300 to put them up and $150 to take them down. I thought I was getting a bargain since the first lighting company I called came out and quoted me $1,200 for the same thing.

Who buys the lights? You didn't say. For $250 I got all the lights (ceramic) and installation for the front of my house which includes a 3-car garage. Along all the fascia, up three gables, the archway to the front door and all three garage bays. I did my own bushes and trees.

If you explained what you expect and you still got that quote, I would suggest TAKE IT. That's a great price!

Wow, I just can't see paying $450-$1200 for a temporary decoration that will be up for a month. I'll just do without.

I think I'd rather use that money to spend of gifts for friends and family or just throw one heck of a Christmas party.

it sounds like a good deal considering the amount of lights you want to put up....considering that i paid $80 for yard stakes and led lights for my driveway/walkway/flower bed which was 85ft of lights...and i only put lights on the roof of my porch 32ft ($20 worth of led lights)....i personally don't like getting on the roof....

DIY (do it yourself). Don't be lazy. Saves money, gives satisfaction of accomplishment, combats wimpiness and complacentcy, etc.

If the guy divorces you, then say "Good riddance!" You could probably do much better, by finding a real man.

Make sure the folks working on bonded/insured. The last thing you need is a "fly-by-night" place making you a great quote, falling off your roof, then filing against you.

Also, do they just buy regular lights, or do they custom cut lights to your house?
