Well, I certainly wouldn't limit my searches to IT companies, as many of the very large Fortune 500 companies in Houston have IT specific organizations that employ many people.

Example: there are many IT jobs for Exxon Mobile or BP.

However, if you have maintained a job in IT specific companies, here are two I can think of off the top of my head:

BMC is one of the larger IT companies in the US and its corporate headquarters is in Houston.

The former Compaq headquarters is now the largest single site for HP employees (non EDS) in the world, up on the NW side of Houston.

I work for South Western Energy and they pay us IT folks Really well. I'm currently a Sr. Helpdesk Analyst and part-time system administrator. Definitely look at the Oil and Gas companies as that's the field I'm employed in. Natural gas exploration to be exact. These guys take care of their employees, bonuses and all. Flex Fridays, leave at noon-every other Friday. Fun stuff, golf tournaments and they look for a reason to pary any chance they get.

There are TONS of IT opportunities currently available in Houston. 2012 is pretty hot at the moment for the IT industry, and is finally picking up again. A lot of oil/gas recommendations are being mentioned, but the fact is that everyone with an IT shop in the Houston area seems to have a pretty healthy budget and are expanding their staff. Since Jan, I've received approximately 10 job interview requests from different industries: hospitals, manufacturing, oil/gas, renewable fuels. Most of the job offerings came from healthcare. These recruiters came to me via my linkedin profile. I'm currently working and am not looking, but as you can see, the demand it out there.

What IT skills do you have? I have some recent jobs that I turned down, and if your skills match up, I'll refer you to them, as they asked me to send word of their available position to anyone I knew who may be qualified.

Also, my IT skills are Systems Admin / Network Admin / PM / Security Admin, and most of the offers I've been receiving lately line up with those skill sets.
