My zip code will be 77069. I will be living in a 1/1 apartment are there any companies that don't charge minimum kwh use? Just from my research it seems all the companies do. Please feel free to recommend a company that you've had a good experience with.

Green Mountain Energy has a power saver plan where the min kWh is about the same as the avg and if you go over 2000 kWh, you get charged more. They run promotions every now and then, so sometimes you can get a good deal. Try looking at powertochoose.org. Lots of good info there. And if you sign a 3 month contract, you can renew for another 12 months in Jan/Feb when prices are usually lower.

I'm on Bounce's Terrific 12 plan. It is 12.9 cents and no minimum usage. When I was searching, there were much much cheaper prices but they all had minimums as you said. I'm sure you can shop more and find cheaper, but this is at least one option for you. Call up powertochoose and they should be able to inform you of who can get you the best deals with no minimums.

I have a plan from Reliant called "Conservation 12" that has no minimum usage. They charge a lower rate for the first 1000 kWh and a higher rate for anything over 1000 kWh. This past month I used 1100 kWh so I paid for 1000 kWh @ 5.5 cents and 100 kWh at 9 cents plus the Centerpoint charges. This worked out to 10.7 cents per kWh when factoring in all charges.

Looking at past usage I only go over 1000 kWh in the summer (3 to 4 months) and had another 3-4 months where I was below 500 kWh. Total cost for me appeared to be a "wash" compared to plans with minimum usage, but I actually had an incentive to try and conserve energy since I wouldn't be penalized for dropping below 500 kWh (or 700 kWh that I saw on some plans).

Reliant is the way to go.

They seem to be one of the only companies that don't charge if your usage is under 1000 kWh.
