I sure could use your help. I have three children currently involved in soccer, ballet and horseback riding. My husband will be working downtown Houston. Any information about great places for these activities would be great. Thanks GAK17

Houston has many organized sporting groups for the kids. When you decide where you are moving just ask around some of the public schools, they should know about any local groups.

I live just outside the city limits along US 290 (1 mile north of Jersey Village) and the big non-ISD group around here is the Cy-Fair Sports Association, which is very big, and owns very nice professionally maintained fields and is very well funded. There are several small horseback riding areas that give lessons in the area to my north, and in the Champions area there is a large professional riding school called the Redd School (my sister used to teach there). Google search "Redd School Equestrian Center" and it should be the first thing that pops up. As for the ballet, there are several professional schools throughout town, and tons of regular (for fun) ballet/jazz dance centers & schools throughout the area, mainly in strip retail centers.

West U is good but very pricey! River Oaks, Memorial, Tanglewood, Bellaire are other options but also pricey! Alot of kids from these neighborhoods attend private schools also!

Cypress has a number of good riding schools and stables...great club soccer, great schools, etc.

There's a neighborhood called Stable Gate in Cypress which offers riding pens and stables for the resident's horses. You might also check out Gleannloch Farms in Klein.

I would suggest some place like the Memorial area of Houston. Though it's a bit expensive.

If you're looking at suburbs because of expense, you might check out Sienna Plantation in Missouri City. I know they have stables there, and it's a huge neighborhood with lots of other activities for the kids as well.

If your husband will be commuting to downtown Houston daily, you're going to have to be careful about not living too far out, and he'll need a route that goes straight to downtown to be quickest. I think some place like Cypress for example, would be a nightmare commute to downtown. For Sienna Plantation, he could use the Fort Bend tollway part of the way, or just go a bit east first and take Hwy 288 straight into downtown.
