My husband started a great job in The Woodlands and the family is relocating. We have 2 children, a boy 11 and a girl 9. We are looking around and having a difficult time deciding what to do. I could use thoughts on what we are currently considering -

Budget: 400,000-600,000
Priorities: Exemplary Schools, Community/Amenities, Commute (Ease and Time),Value for Money

My question is two fold: Do we move into the Woodlands where the schools are excellent, yet my children may get lost in the shuffle. (The schools are much bigger in the woodlands than our current school). I know they will get a great education, but fear because of the size, harder to get into the top 10%. Or, do we move outside the Woodlands and go with a smaller school where they have a better chance to get into the top 10%. My son plays football and is really good. However, in a large school, he may not even make the team. I appreciate my children being challenged and pushed, but don't want them to be overwhelmed.
We really like the Woodlands, the schools, and the nice parks, jogging trails, shopping , etc.
I want a neighborhood with a lot of children, great schools, and activities.
I would greatly appreciate any advice!
Thanks,
Georgia Mom

Coming from Georgia, also worried about the size of schools, we went with private (only one child) - - but not necessary. We saw many kids thrive in both environments. In The Woodlands, I believe there are three totally different school districts, so you would want to investigate that. Also, a bit cheaper to live outside The Woodlands - - but you lose the convenience and controlled environment (which is very important in Texas). At your price range, there are many choices, paticularly if commute access to 45 is not a priority.

It sounds like you and your family would really enjoy The Woodlands...especially if your husband will be working there. You won't be disappointed.

I would definitely move to The Woodlands proper. Great restaurants, schools, shopping, etc. At your children's ages, move in to a great house, public schools, and see how it goes. It won't take long to figure out the lay of the land. You can always make a change once you have your feet on the ground here. Welcome to Texas.
