So my family and I just moved back to Houston from Scotland two days ago. I got a shock when I went shopping. Groceries seem to have nearly doubled in price, and clothing is way up, as well. I went to the whole foods on kirby and could not believe the prices of things. I know that WF is the most expensive store in the city, but when my husband and I lived here 3 years ago the prices weren't nearly as outrageous as they are now. Time to find an HEB. Can't believe there hasn't been more about the rise in inflation in the news. That has to be the biggest inflation hike since the 70s. And I think my groceries were cheaper in the UK, or at least about the same. Still loving being back here, though.

Actually the inflation rate has been low for a couple years. In 2009 it was actually negative, 2010 was under 2% and 2011 around 3%. 3% is pretty average if you look at the past several years. So far this year it has been under 3%. In the 70's and early 80's inflation rates some years were 10%+

Most products I buy are close in price to what they were a few years ago - the one exception being beer. That has gone up $1 to $2 a 12-pack depending on where I buy.

Mr. Bernanke says we have no inflation.

Fruits and veggies went up last month according to the CPI. Just about everything else, stayed the same or went down.

Perhaps you left about the time the big dairy producers were dropping the prices in order drive out the small producers. They were successful, therefore milk stated creeping up about a year ago.

You could not get me into that WF on Kirby if you held a gun at my head. Check out the Costco.

We moved from Scotland 4 years ago and I have always found groceries about the same if not more expensive here and less choice. Hubby was back last week and came home with some essentials Atora, Ruskaline, Asda packet curry sauce, Prawn Cocktail Pringles, Hula Hoops, and lots of lovely chocolate.

Yes, inflation in the US is startling, but it's at such a low pace that most locals don't see it because the goobermint is doing tons of distortions. For example, take a piece of beef. There are many ways to process the beef to keep it longer. Of course, the longer it stays out, the cheaper it is. The goobermint allows processing with ammonia, formaldehyde, etc...stuff they couldn't do 20-30-40 yrs ago. So today's inflation rate is less today than 40 years ago. Same with all the food stuff....same with cotton..now they use crap like microfiber, disgusting.

Same thing happens in europe, only they try to offset inflation by taxing, pretending to use those taxes for the public good...
