Top 10 Worst Weather NFL Training Camps - weather.com

Quote:
The quote New Yorkers apply to themselves “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere” is valid to the willing participants at the Texans NFL camp.
The combination of hot daily temperatures and oppressive dew points allows the Texans camp to be dubbed “NFL's Iron Man camp.”
The dew point measures how comfortable one feels due to the amount of moisture in the air. Typically, dew points in the mid 60s are considered muggy and the lower to mid 70s oppressive. Higher dew points do not allow for much evaporation of perspiration from the skin.
The wind direction is generally from the Gulf of Mexico 40 percent of the time in July and August, keeping the high humidity spigot on in Houston. On the bright side, the average high drops to 92 degrees by the time camp breaks (Okay, I am a bit sarcastic).

July/August average high: 93 degrees / 93.5 degrees
July/August % of hours above 85 degrees: 36% / 36%
July/August average dew point: 74.5 degrees / 74 degrees
July/August % of hours with overcast sky: 5% / 4%

With what they get paid, I don't think I give a rat's rectum.

At the given temps (93) and dew points (74) the average heat index during training camp is 103°.

The beginning of training camp on Saturday is forecast to be 96°.

I know it's hot because I used to practice football in this heat before school started during two-a-days. I know Dallas is ranked low on here because they are pampered out in California but if they had their camp here they would be somewhere in the top 10 as well but Houston would still be #1. I played football in both and Houston always felt worse because of the higher dew points.

Some people may be apprehensive about working out in this kind of climate but without a doubt it gets you into the best shape of your life. I do feel for the people that have to work in it, though.

Cardinals training camp is in Flagstaff, AZ... 7,000 ft elevation with July/August average highs around 80 deg F.

OK. Thanks for the clear up. They probably practice there because of the heat.

Luckily they have a great big indoor training facility.

I like that the Texans train here in Houston. Dallas doing training in California is stupid from my standpoint. It is great to have the Texans right here where you can actually go to training activities.

I grew up in downtown Chicago. I never once went to Bears training camp as it was a pain in the rear to get all the way up to Lake Forest (now Bourbonnais). Texans training camp, though, is a 10 minute drive away. My boys have a great time there being able to get so up and close to the players.
