Respect is highly over rated unless it comes from the job creators.... Houston has jobs, respect from Hollywood types or tourist is not something it really needs in my view... If it had more respect it would be more crowded than it is...... so shhhhhhh dont tell anyone about the jobs.

That probably explains why we didn't get the shuttle :-)

The upside down Texas flag was flown out the window of the shuttle by the NASA crew from Florida once they touched down in Houston.

Stupid Floridians.

BTW,
what's the point of stopping in Houston?
If thought planes could fly more than 1000 miles on one tank

According to the news, over 100,000 people flocked over to see it at Ellington yesterday, where were these people when we were fighting for the shuttle?

Did Obama make the decision?
We know how Texas treats historical vessels. Just look at the mess the USS Texas is in. On top of that Texas provided a cheap ass plan. So don't go blaming other places for once again have more foresight.

The Space Shuttle was an American Project....not a Texan project.
http://www.space.com/11442-obama-spa...-politics.html
"Former space shuttle program manager Wayne Hale responded to the outcry in a blog post, saying Houston did not get a retired orbiter because the city does not deserve one. The post, which originally appeared on Hale's personal blog, was also reprinted on Space News.

'Not that we don’t have a long history with the shuttle; it was largely designed here; the program was managed from here from the beginning to the end, every single mission was planned here, the astronauts who flew the shuttle are based here, trained here, live here. Mission control is here," Hale wrote. "But Houston is blasé about the shuttles. Houston and Texas have come to regard NASA and JSC as entitlements."

Yeah, I was gonna reply to the OP if the WaPo quotes Tom Hanks with the line then there's no real reason to quote the WaPo.

So some big cities get a shuttle. Houston will just move on to the next great claim to fame. Maybe non-stop shuttles from Inter-Continental to the Texas SpacePort in Midland. Try putting one of those in L.A.
