Hey Forum Friends - are there any bad or undesirable parts of Pearland? Looking to be close to the Medical Center, avoid crime, major traffic headaches, and avoid overt racism.

Thanks!!

Everyone flocks to the 288/518 area of Pearland - the newer area -- however, close proximity to major freeways make it also an easy getaway -- I would move farther in and use retailers more in the central part of the city -- of course that sort of takes away of the luxury of being so close to the Med Center. I understand traffic is a bear just getting to 288 if you live more inside the city.

It doesn't have to be bad in terms of getting to 288 from some parts of the city. I take the *back roads*. As of now, you can take Bailey Road (County 101) over the railroad tracks and cut up to Southfork on County 89 and get on 288 from Southfork. Bailey Road is newly extended though and there is lots of construction, so you might have to figure ways around that. From where I live, I just take Southfork Drive to 288, but I am closer to the newer area I guess, though not in a brand new subdivision.

I would also like to know if there is a "bad" part of Pearland as well. We are building a house in Southern Trails, which is on the 288/518 north side, past all the new retail development coming up.

I do know that they have had some recent issues at the target and walmart parking lots that are in the 288/518 area - robberies, that sort of thing.

Well it figures you are going to have a few bad apples in Pearland!

We just moved to Pearland a few months ago. We luv it. Close to the city, yet there is enough out here to do that you don't have to go in if you don't want to. I would stay in the newer parts of Pearland ( near 518 and 288 ).Obviously you could look in any city in the country and there are going to be some sort of crime problems but all and all Pearland seems to be pretty quiet. Our agent was great if you need a refferal.

It's hard for me to believe Pearland has any bad parts. I was only out of texas for about 6 years, and Pearland used to be just about in the middle of nowhere.

See you get a mixed bag some say stick to the newer section 518/288 while others prefer the older sections - basically Pearland is a good place to live. You will have more random crime in the newer section due to its proximity to fast escapes on the freeway -- however that statement is true anywhere if you live near a major freeway. Depends on what you are looking for - newer is sort of modern, Sugarland looking - near the freeways, near Houston, near med center. Older is more small town feel, less modernity (while still having all the amenities one would need). More traffic to move through to get out of town ..... but a more slightly rural feel depending upon the neighborhood some older ones have very large yards, etc.
