I wanted to get some honest opinions from Houstonians about how they feel that Austin was able to land an F1 track COTA. A half billion people will be watching Austin, not too bad for a mid sized city...

I believe it's a great fit for Austin since there are no other professional sports to compete with. Do you think that's why a city like Austin was picked over Houston? I presume Dallas wasn't picked because of the proximity of the TX Motor speeway (competition).

What's Houstonians take?

well Houston hosted the Grand Prix before so it doesn't bother me that Austin got it this time. and from what i see, Houston will host Grand Prix again in 2013.

The Austin race is Formula 1. The Houston race is IndyCars. Big difference.

Indy is money hungry and will race "in the streets" if the money is right.

Austin drew F1 (and MotoGP... the F1 of motorcycles) by building a world-class track.

Who cares, is in Texas and only 200 miles from Houston.

You sound like you don't know anything about Formula 1, because there hasn't been a Formula 1 race in the US since 2007
and the closest Formula 1 races in the last 5 years were in Montreal, Canada, 1600 miles away and London, England 4900 miles away.

When I said no other professional sports in Austin, I was referring to football, basketball, baseball, etc... which Houston has. I do realize that there hasn't been a race since 2007. That's all the media in Austin is talking about these days.

I suspect that the percentage of people in Houston who even know about it is low. F1 is not that popular in the US.
