Has anyone ever adopted a family for the holidays? I had signed up through Houston Children's Charities. I didn't realize they send you just the name and phone number and you call and get their wish list and schedule the appointment - which is fine but I thought they might have provided some guidelines (like what to do if the family doesn't speak english, or any other issues).

I'm excited to do this annually with my family.

Just wondering if anyone else has and what your experiences have been.

I don't remember the name of the charity, but years ago near Thanksgiving, there was a Christmas tree in the mall with all the Angel-shaped paper ornaments. Each has a name of the children and their wishes. I picked one and called the charity. I called them and they referred me to CPS. I told CPS I wanted to donate Thanksgiving dinner to some families. They gave me 4 addresses. I ordered Thanksgiving dinner sets for 4 at HEB and picked them up Thanksgiving morning. Drove around town and delivered to that 4 households. The reaction of the kids when they saw a whole turkey and all the food? Priceless! I felt so blessed to be able to bring joy to their families that year.
