I returned to Houston today and had time to drive much of the Energy Corridor (EC). I had heard of the construction going on but was blown away by all the projects.

I was not aware of the 7 story luxury apt project near Memorial and Eldridge.

The office projects were all over the place...
1. Bp complex building one new office
2. Several buildings being added to the Shell WestHollow office project north of I10
3 Clearing the corner of I10 and Eldridge (SW corner) making room for up to 2 or 3 new offices.
4. New office in McHaik complex on northside of I10 at Kirkwood
5. Clearing land south of Memorial next to Memorial Thicket of the old ARCO building, making room for what looked like up to 3 offices.
6. West of SH6 on both the south side and north side of I10 frontage road, two new buildings going up.

I have no idea if I spotted all the projects and wonder if others might want to ID projects going on in EC they are aware of by clarifying my list and adding to it as needed.

Thanks!

Default Hmm...

#1 on your list is a new super computing facility for BP.
#3 on your list is a new 20 story office building, Katy's first "skyscraper", ha!

Do you have an inside scoop? This is a 20 story office building going up?

there are so many projects going on along the Katy Freeway right now it is hard to keep up with. If you drive out from memorial city on to almost Brookshire the amount of projects under development is astounding. I can only imagine the impact this must have on people arriving to Houston for the first time driving in from the West along the Katy freeway. Because of the economic downturn a lot of these projects were put on hold. For this reason as soon as the economy woke up from a its 4 year nap all of these bottled up projects started almost simultaneously. I just regret that KBR did not go through with it's move to Katy and Exxon snubbed Katy also with it's new campus. In all fairness Katy does not have dense wooded areas that can hide a campus and Exxon likes to keep it's offices out of public view. You never see the word EXXON prominent on an office building even if Exxon rents out the entire building.

The lot that's been empty for decades, where Wilcrest dead ends north of 10 is constructing as well.

With Exxon leaving downtown Houston, which of the big integrated-majors remain ? Is Chevron still downtown in the old Enron buildings and is Shell still downtown or are they also thinking about relocating ?

I thought BP already had a 20+ story building on their EC campus.

I am surprised so many global oil companies locate in the EC with its distance from a major international airport compared to the northern suburbs. Global means lots of visitors from international locations and a lot of travel by their staff internationally to me. I agree XOM likes to hide its offices. In some areas putting up a big XOM sign is like saying kick me!

I agree its incredible the number and scale of project going up our West... I too wish KBR's campus had moved forward. Traffic to me was noticeably worse since I lived in the area two years plus ago. 77079 KISD western end is like a twilight zone on weekends....huge streets built for week day rush hour crowds wiht no traffic on weekends.. At 5pm week days Memorial could be jammed and grid locked from Eldridge to SH6 and on weekends you might not see two cars making that run.

When I sold my home in 77079 in 2010, I was considering renting it but let my realtor talk me out of it.... there is a lesson here !

It's no secret. It was on the Chronicle and HBJ. I wouldn't call 10 and Eldridge Katy though. You have to get to Barker Cypress first and there are some midrises going up in the Katy area (near Mason).
