Hi all,

I am looking to move to an Apt near 77494.My son is turning 4 this June. The school zoned to the area is Fielder elementary but they don't accept children in PK-4 who don't speak Spanish So i am planning to put him in private school. I am interested in Katy Adventist christian school but don't see any recent reviews for it.Could someone throw light on this school and also Texas christian school? Please suggest some good private schools with good academics.I am really not interested in daycare kind of school.

Thanks

I'm sorry I can't help you with private schools for your child, but I never had young ones in school here. Like Houston321, though, I am very curious to know more about this language requirement to attend PK at Fielder. How in the world can an American public school make this requirement?

Public preK is only funded for certain groups, I believe this is a state law. The requirements are on the website, it's limited to ESL, low income and some other small groups.

Pre-K

Again, public pre-K (PK4) is for kids who will need help before entering kindergarten because they either don't speak English as a first language, have learning disabilities, come from a lower income family or have an active military parent. The state of Texas does not provide PK4 for kids who don't fall into these categories. The staff may not have explained it to you very well but this is why, it's not 'because they teach PK4 in Spanish'.

Try The Learning Center in South Katy. It's not very expensive but has a good quality program. Lots of KATYISD teachers and principals send their kids there.

It's not fancy, but it's a solid learning environment and has small class sizes.

PK in the public schools is a separate program than K-12. It is federally funded and only available for special needs children, limited English proficiency children, and very poor children. It's a way to help prepare certain parts of the population for public education.

I live in that zipcode and my daughter will attend Fielder. English is not her first language yet (we are teaching her our own native language which is not spanish). We were told she can't attend the Pre-K (one year) in Fielder as they teach the Spanish speaking kids there for that first year (to those that qualifies). My daughter qualifies because she does not speak English to the next school across the block called Cimarron School for the Pre-K year. Cimarron accept all students in pre-k that speaks anything other than Spanish.

She will be back to Fielder after first year.
