I bank with US Bank which is big in the midwest. I don't want to get rid of them but they have almost no presence down here. Anyone on here care to recommend a good bank. I'm not too excited about going over to Bank of America. I'm looking at Chase or maybe Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo did a great job when I first moved here and I'll stick with them but I'm moving my day to day banking to a local credit union. Better rates and fees on everything and free turbo tax to file my tax return.

A good bank? Sorry but that does not exist. Today all banks generate up to 80% of their revenue by raping us with junk fees. That in my view show they all suck. Unfortunately they are a necessary evil.

Your only and best bet is a credit union. They do not soak you with junk fees and are much more lenient with loaning money.

Stay away from Bank Of America who still continues to allow illegal aliens to open bank accounts without a social security number. If I need one to open an account and someone else does not because of their backround, race, religion or any other issue, then that is flat out illegal discrimination.

^ This. There are no good banks. Credit Unions are the only way to go.

You don't absolutely need a social security number to open a back account. You see, not all legal immigrants are conferred with SSN's either but they have to have a bank account. For getting a credit card on the other hand, you need SSN. But as per my experience, they do ask for a valid foreign passport and a valid US visa for opening an account.

Another vote for a credit union. They offer just about everything a regular bank does along with much more personal service. I can just call mine and get approved for a new car loan in minutes like I just did last week. Most participate in "shared branches" where you can make deposits at most other credit unions, and they are often members of several free ATM groups like Allpoint or Co-Op that have hundreds of locations across the city - most Chase ATMs in Walgreens & CVS are part of the free ATM network.

I also have several accounts at Chase, because my grandfather had his accounts there that I inherited handling. FWIW, they are not bad at all, but then we have a Premire account that waives many fees and charges due to his mortgage.

I agree with the credit union sentiment. That said, we moved here from Washington state last year, where we have used US Bank since about 1990 or so. We still use them as most transactions can be handled electronically now, even deposits. If we need, we just call our old branch that we frequented and speak to the customer service rep. It's worked out just fine for us.

"You don't absolutely"? A negative and a positive in the same sentence huh. I have no idea what you're trying to say but here is some proof for you.

How Do You Feel About Bank of America Offering Credit Cards to Illegal Immigrants?

BOA sucks!!!!!!!!!!

Your so called proof is nothing but an ill informed rant against immigrants. All of the big banks offer these services. On an H1B visa the dependants do not qualify for a SSN and even if you do qualify you have to be in the country for three months before you can apply. Without these programs, if you want to call it that, legal immigrants couldn't exist in the US.

Do illegal immigrants take advantage of this? I suppose they could but at least acknowledge the issue is much more nuanced than the article suggests. Life is not a republican party platform, black and white, it more complicated and deserves careful consideration of all the issues.
