Would you still appeal if you just built a new house and the appraisal is less than your purchase price in the first year?

Pedro is correct, it isn't that difficult to argue your case against the board. The first state the Representative you meet has limited powers, and I suspect limits on how much they can reduce. The board has more power and therefore you must come prepared.

Comparable sales prices in your neighborhood as compared to yours. Other appraised values that are lower than yours. Maps, pictures, surveys ect.

All this you can typically do yourself, but it takes time.

It is not hard to do. If time is lacking, it is always worth it to just hire a 3rd party to represent you.

There is a high cost to pay for being lazy or cheap.

Thank you all for your useful information! We were new to home ownership and, fighting property taxes. We didn't know how to protest ourselves so we used O'Connor and Associates. Big mistake. Thanks to your information I believe we will handle the protest ourselves.

I have a few other questions but, I don't know if I should ask them here or start a new thread. They concern protesting for prior years. Please let me know where to post them.

Thanks again

beware...the files are large and the codes can be confusing.
Great info!

Is anyone aware of a similar resource for Fort Bend County?
