I have had knocking sound in the walls in my master bedroom. After about 2 months of talking to friends, contractors, etc., a neighbor told me that it could be coming from my electric timers. I have 3 digital timers in the house. I reset all three of them, and the knocking sound stopped completely.

What are those digital timers for?

The noise in my wall, actually it's the ceiling for the most part is still coming.

I have this same issue, but only happens in the morning and the noise is coming from the other side of the house that the hot water heater is located. Any ideas?

We had a knocking type sound on the sides of the house and it turned out to be the vent covers where the bathroom, dryer, or microwave vented to the exterior. When it was breezy the wind would cause the vent slats to open and then fall closed.

Have this same noise in one particular hot water pipe in our house (built in 1979) - the pipe leading towards one of the sinks in the master bath. Starts "clicking" about 15-30 seconds after hot water is turned on, stops shortly after hot water is turned off.

If we ever remove the sheetrock during a future bathroom renovation, I'll address it then. In the meantime, it's only a minor annoyance.

Can it also be from the hot water heater? I heard that hard water can leave mineral sediment in the water heater--as water boils by the heating element at the bottom of the tank, it makes a popping noise as it pushes past the sediment…
