Gorgeous building, but I don't see it being used. They are going to compete with Jones and the Hobby venues? We are not talking a music venue like Cynthia Woods.

It's interesting how some of these suburbs are starting to "graduate" into small, real cities.

And yes, I know that Sugar Land is already its own city, but I'm saying a "real city" in the sense that it's going to try to compete with Houston and develop its own urban core (rather than be populated by a bunch of people that commute everyday for work and even for entertainment).

I think with rising fuel costs and the trend for people to live in the cities instead of the suburbs this is a way to survive. This is a way to fight back. The Woodlands is leading the way. Though none are hardly a substitute for the real deal.

Stafford has one just as nice...their numbers should show if Sugar Land really needs one...but in some cases, they can only get certain acts as some won't even consider suburbs

I dont' think it's meant to be in direct competition with bigger venues like Cynthia Woods. Different types of performances require different venues, from intimate to football stadium sizes, from state of the art AV to basic stage. Houston's schedule is always busy so it would be good for all if we have more venues. Southwest is dense in population so it should be enough to support most acts.

That whole area is still growing, with all the Richmond & Rosenburg current & planned development.

Sugar Land is similar to The Woodlands and Katy have their own uniqueness. I mean, I hardly ever go into the city of Houston anymore (or at least inside the loop). A few times a year I go to IAH and drive through downtown, but all in all I have everything I could want with in Sugar Land and nearby. There are many people in similar situations. My friends in Katy said they hardly ever go past city centre since they work in the energy corridor. With the minor league stadium and the new concert hall in Sugar Land, I think they will be able to host more than enough events. the HMNS @ Sugar Land is really nice, my kids enjoy it quite a bit. Now if they could only make Hwy 6 a freeway to I-10 or beyond from 90 , that would be awesome.

It would be a good venue for smaller acts and could be done at more affordable prices because the venue is smaller.

6500 is actually a lot of seats to sell tickets for when you look at the whole calendar year and the number of nights they can potentially book the hall. I hope they bring on some seasoned administrative and production staff.

It looks like it will be a beautiful facility.
