I prefer Space City, Bayou City, or even, The Magnolia City, (I only know that one thanks to Narobi) but H-Town doesn't bother me at this point !

I grew up in "P-town" or "Stump town" The name never bothered me.

H-town just sounds unimaginative. Space City sounds great. I would think that nickname needs to be promoted. Bring that futuristic idea and the "space economy" with it.

Houston the leading North American "jump off" point for commercial space operations.

Leading the world in commercial space operations. Houston,Texas: We can get you there!

Houston, the perfect blend of logistics and technology to take you higher.

Sound OK?

Insert Space City everywhere you see the word Houston.

And think, you don't need to change the major sports franchise names!

To be fair, its mostly used in the hip hop and R&b crowds and most of those nicknames aren't that great. Atlanta is atl and all that's only an airport code. I know DC was called chocolate cities and the native Washingtonians HATE that nickname. Some are good like Brick city for Newark, NJ.

I could live without Houston's "hip hop" scene.

I'm sure they're disappointed that you don't approve. I much prefer ours to the "thugs and hoes" hip-hop that's so popular in the mainstream.

Most of the well-known city nicknames are not used by locals anyway. Have you ever heard a Bostonian refer to their city as "Beantown?"

i definitely did not grow up in or around the houston rap scene, but i knew of houston as h-town as a kid.

h-town and the bayou city are the only two i ever really hear. they are just nicknames. too simple to care about

i have in fact heard people in boston refer to it as beantown. maybe in a referential sense of humor kind of way but they definitely say it

Does not bother me at all. Grew up hearing Houston being called that. I even use it myself in a playful way at times.

I hear "H-town" a lot on the internet. I almost never hear "Space City", just like I don't hear "The Bayou City", which some people were pushing years ago.

After all these years of seeing people attempt to get a nickname to stick for Houston, H-town seems to be the closest one to actually making it. Not that I'm so crazy about it either, but at least it's not a fake one that smacks of just being a PR product.
