Hello,

I am from Kuwait and I am planning on doing my engineering in the states, one of the good choices I found is the University or Houston - clear lake.

I've read some ups and downs about clear lake in this forum, but if i am only planning on spending 4-5 years for education purpose, would you recommend clear lake for me?

and is it a safe area? since I am bringing my wife and kids with me.

thanks in advance

Yes it is a very safe area. Good schools for your children. It is a nice family oriented suburb. You and your family will enjoy it.

Are you studying computer engineering? That is the only traditional engineering program at UH-Clear Lake (there is also a graduate software engineering program) The Clear Lake campus is small, but it is supposed to be one of the safest campuses in the nation. Clear Lake is a good area with good schools.

UH has a large campus closer to downtown Houston with all the traditional engineering programs. However crime is more of an issue in that part of town.

Its an upper-division school, which means it only offers the 3rd and 4th years of a bachelor's degree, you have to obtain the first and second years elsewhere. They also offer various master's programs. Its relatively smalli, it reminds me of a large, enclosed shopping mall. 90% of the classes are all in one big building.

The area is quite nice, upscale, nice homes and apts, its quite safe. Do check into transfer of your credits.

It becomes a 4-year school either This fall or in 2014. Also has a large population of foreign students. There are 4 or 5 buildings now. It has grown by leaps and bounds since the one big bldg days.

The main UH has a respectable traditional engineering school. While that area has more than its fair share oof crime, you can live in a safe area and commute to school.
