Hello All,

We are thinking of buying a home from David weekly. They will build it in their lot with their standard model. We get to go to their design center to pick upgrades.

I haven't signed the contract yet, but what should I watch for in the contract as well as other general tips.

Is David Weekly a good builder..how are the homes post completion.

Thank you!

My now 8 years old home is David Weekley and we went through that process 8 years ago. I would ask them to let you come to the design center to do "homework" a couple days before and give you some of the selection/options that is required for you to answer . While we was there last time, it was kind of rushing and we felt stress out and did not enjoy the buying/selecting process. We do love our home - I really feel David Weekley homes is very good bangs for the buck,

This thread will probably have somes tips for you and more:

I don't remember exactly, but I think their earnest deposit is $1k and 25% for upgrades.

tentenequals20,

i did not hire attorney for the contract. if i remembered right, the contract was pretty simple straight forward. Just be careful when you select the upgrade as i think you need to pay for part of the upgrade right away and that money is non-refundable. i maybe wrong as that was 8 years ago and i can barely remember things that happened last week...

From our builder we got a list of ALL options available for the home we were building and the prices over the standard options.

Discuss the incentives if any you will get and how they can be used. This will help you make your selections if price is important to you.

Usually on the options pages there will be model numbers on various items, you can google/bing those items to get an idea of what things look like.

Good luck

Just remember that no matter what the sales guy/gal at the model home tells you it only counts if it is in the contract. They usually require a % of the upgrades paid upfront in cash so be prepared. This may be negotiable but negotiate it before you show up.

you need to write down everything you can think of that you want. for example, xmas plugs in the soffits, patio surround sound, patio tv jack, outlet, gas connection on back patio, undercabinet wiring, etc. after design center, this will all cost more. if you wait until after sheetrock goes up, it will cost even more.

david weekly is a good builder.
