To get straight to the point....I'm wondering if the below apartment in the Hedwig Village area is a deal vs. what we want/need. -- Relocating from St. Louis. Mid 30's, no kids, but we do have a 10 lb dog. Work location will vary, so that's not an essential part of the equation

Apt Needed/Wanted
1) $650-1100 Unfurnished 1 bdr / 1 bth
On the higher end, we'd like at least something included -- basic cable, wifi, utilities..
2) Some updates, clean, nice
3) No carpet (prefer wood, but laminate wood or tile is fine)
4) Private patio (with a patch of grass...not all concrete)
5) Mature trees around (not a must...just a want)
6) In-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher
7) 650+ sq.ft., space for "office" (dining room area would work fine)
8) Somewhat quiet area
9) NOT a party central for young 20-somethings
10) Park/walking trail nearby
11) 3 - 6 month lease preferred (want to get acclimated to the city, find a more permanent area)
12) I want to see the place in person before committing because I know all too well that you can't
depend on internet apt pictures sometimes. -- We'd probably have to put our stuff in storage and rent
a hotel while we look for a place...which means storing our things, then moving them from storage once
we find a place
13) Close to diverse dining (not just chain restaurants)...although we're willing to sacrifice this
while, hopefully, in a short term lease. We'll figure out if it's a must later.

Apt available in Hedwig Village:
1) $1000 Furnished 1 bdr/ 1 bth (includes basic cable, wifi -- $90 extra for utilities)
Have to pay for a small storage unit to store some of our things or consider selling most of it
2) Some updates, clean, nice
3) Ceramic tile floors
4) Private patio with grass
5) Mature trees around
6) In-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher
7) 674 sq.ft. with dining area
8) Seemed quiet the short time I was there (2 days)
9) Didn't seem to be party central, although I hardly saw any neighbors, but it was Sept/HOT
10) I didn't see it while there, but I think there's a park/walking trail within walking distance
11) 6 month lease
12) We've stayed in the unit previously and know what we're getting. The area felt safe and we
wouldn't have to worry about moving into a hotel. We would have to store our things, but we don't
have a ton of stuff because we're selling most of it, so we'd only need a small storage uni.
13) I have no idea about the restaurants nearby

Deal or no deal?

We're also open to other areas in the city and suburbs...we're just not familiar with them. Feel free to recommend!

It is a short term rental in a good location. I would take it.

I would go for it as well. It is one of the more elite neighborhoods in Houston with multi million dollar homes everywhere. You will have easy access to many great restaurant options.

There are great restaurants/shopping in the Galleria area. Too many to name. Maggianos, Truluck's, Masroff's, Bombay Brasserie, etc...We also love Ragin Cajun, but it is an acquired taste for some I love the old carwash turned into a bar on Westheimer. Cool vibe.

You are also reasonably close to restaurants/shopping in City Centre. CITYCENTRE - Welcome to CITYCENTRE

I love the movie theater there: Studio Movie Grill. I have eaten at Bistro, RA Sushi, and the Yard House. Love it! The whole place is packed on a Saturday night I am still trying to go to Ruggles Green, but my husband likes to stay closer to our home in Meyerland. The vibe is mid 20's to mid 40's. We only go there if our friends plan the night out.

There used to be a dig park near Transco(new name Williams) tower. We used to go there all the time, but I am sure it was gobbled up by the city/condo. I also think there is a dog bar near Memorial or the Heights. drink+dog=fun. I don't have a dog anymore, and have only heard about it.

Good luck!
