My husband is being relocated to Houston and we are looking to move to a suburban town with great schools that are not all consumed by and focused solely on sports. We have a 10 year old son who is fantastic, very social and outgoing, but who is not interested in competitive sports. He will play the occassional game of pick up football or soccer, but that is about it. I have been told that he may have a hard time in certain schools (like the schools in Katy). Is this true? If so, can anyone recommend a school that might suit his interests?

Thank you in advance for your help.

What you were told about sports is an exaggeration. You want to live within an easy commute distance of work if that's possible. Let that be the first deciding factor for schools.

My husband will be working on the west side. Glad to hear that whatever I have heard is an exaggeration. =)

Long story short, the schools in the Houston area are so huge that he will have plenty of opportunities to find his own niche. It's just about math. When there are 3000 students in the school, you have to be really good to make the team. As long as he continues to be social and outgoing, and gets involved in something, he will be fine.

Exaggeration! My son is almost 10, and he is also very social but not into sports. He is into acting. I am sure your son will be fine! Good luck with your move!

I have had several clients move into Katy because of their kids' special interests - and sports is only the item sometimes. In fact, the last sports was tennis.

You could send him to Clements in Sugar Land. It's arguable as to whether they even have a football team.
