I am planning to put my 32" tv in our covered patio porch to watch NFL playoff, etc... and thinking about mounting it there for permanent uses. Are TVs designed to be used outdoor like this. Houston's weather is much more unpreditable than my wife hence the question.

No, they're not designed for it but a lot of people do it. It's much cheaper to replace several cheap LCD/LED's than it is to but a specialist outdoor TV.

If it's protected from direct sun/rain it'll probably do okay. You can get covers which will help keep out the dust when not in use.

I guess it depends on how your patio is designed and if your able to bring the TV in during severe weather. Storms here can get pretty crazy and I wouldn't risk having a TV out there during one of those storms. Although a 32 inch is fairly inexpensive so even if a freak storm did damage to it then it's not that big of a loss.

Thank you cbink and westhou for the suggestion. I will get a cover for the TV and would probably leave it out during football season and bring it in when the season is over

My buddy had a plain old tv outside under a patio for years. Seemed to work just fine.

I do this regularly. I have a mount that i can easily lift the TV from and bring inside when the weather is sever (rain\Wind). I will admit I have smoked a few directv receivers, I assume the humidity was to blame.

Ask at any number of sports bars in the area how to install.

My parents have had tv's on the patio for a few years now. They used to haul a 40 inch in and out of the house every afternoon but finally just mounted a larger one outside.

They cover it with a blanket when its not in use, pretty sure they take it down if big storm is coming.

My aunt and uncle used one on their back covered patio during the weekends, but a piece of crap broke into their gate and stole it a few weeks ago.

My neighbor has had one up for over two years now. It's set back pretty far under a covered patio, so the chances of rain hitting it are extremely remote. It's handled the heat, humidity and bugs without issue so far.
