Hello CD gurus,
I have been researching for awhile now for a decent home to buy for my family in TX. Came across a city called Seabrook. Researched Seabrook and came across an encouraging link that listed Seabrook as one of the 25 hottest neighborhoods of 2014.
Here is the link: Where to Live Now: The 25 Hottest Neighborhoods of 2014 (Page 4) | Houstonia Magazine
Then came across a seemingly nice waterfront gated community called VILLA BY THE SEA in Seabrook on HAR.com.
Interesting thing is: there are 6 homes in this community, all on VILLA DR, listed for sale, ranging from $380K to $1.2M!!!
I naturally got interested in the homes in the lower end of the price... but can't help wondering why there are 6 homes on the same street on sale?
I would appreciate any insights.
Thanks very much!
DrD

Cost of insurance may be really high due to proximity to water. But if you can afford to live in that price range, you can afford the insurance.

Thanks Texas7.
That is what I initially thought too. But all 6 homes on one street? I thought that was a little strange.
The address for the $1.2M house (way way way out of my budget) is 514 Villa Dr.
I did some more research, and came across this KHOU.com news link posted in April 2014 and centered around the general land/area/property on and around which the $1.2M 514 Villa Dr is located!
Here is that link (watch the video):
Man stuck in disclosure dispute because he refuses to live on
Gosh, I watched the news clip and I am not sure what to believe!

I mean, is it that people on that street are trying to sell because of the land's past notorious and disturbing and bloody history???

Any experts/locals want to lend some insights into the LIST MURDER MANSION rumors? Any of it true?
I mean... are we talking ghosts and spirits??? Are people leaving because of that???

Some might say it is stupid of me to even bring up such topics... but... I just can't help connecting the dots...

Hoping to hear from anyone who has any kind of feedback/inputs/comments based on knowledge/experience/ etc...

Thanks,
DrD

I searched the tax rolls and noticed that all but one of those homes are not homestead, meaning the owners live in some other part of town. That means to me, that those homes are someone's coastal play-toys they're trying to unload. Could be insurance (wind or flood), could be taxes, who knows?

Makes me wonder if all of those investors got together to have that shill-piece of an article written so they can sell out and let someone else hold the bag. To be honest, that one-street neighborhood would be unheard of without that article.

There is even one of those homes w/ sale pending, that is realtor-owned. He says in his ad he's going to miss living on the coast but turns out he homesteads somewhere else.

Sounds like if you're looking to buy, whatever they're asking for is too much.

Thank you very much Tstone.
I see what you are saying.
Can you please tell me the website for looking up the taxes in that area, so I can do some more research?
Thanks!
DrD

Yep. I saw a video earlier and it looks like this entire gated community is what used to be the entire property of Bill List!
Basically, when it still was the List Mansion (80s), you entered the property via a GATE, and you drove down a long street and you reach the Mansion.
Today, you enter the "VILLA BY THE SEA" gated community via a GATE, and you drive down VILLA DR... the same long street as before nice houses on both sides of the VILLA DR... and then you reach the $1.2M mansion!

I absolutely love watching horror movies and hearing horror stories/campfire stories etc, but, now that I have two young babies and wife, I don't feel comfortable considering any of these gorgeous properties, even if I had the money... I don't know... it might be stupid... but it is also creepy!
