I was there too. I live in Riverstone and we are not fighting for Telfair to leave Clements. But if you look at the maps and projections, Telfair never should have been zoned to Clements in the first place, it was a mistake knowing the growth patterns as we know them now, and they should have stayed at Kempner. But we are not fighting that at all. I don’t know why people cheered. It is not on our agenda at all. We just want to stay in the schools we are currently zoned in.

Also, that was not a plan. It was a parking lot idea, which is very different, Riverstone never suggested that idea.

Probably because they think it will raise their property values, and they may be right.

I think it was done because there was NO WAY Riverstone would ever be zoned to Clements, as much as the Riverstone folks wanted it. Clements HS in the last rezoning was projected to be under-utilized by 2020 so they pre-empt it by adding Telfair and kill the chance of Riverstone ever going to Clements.

Now, this time Riverstone is all ramped up is they want to kick Colony Meadows ELM zone to First Colony MS so all or most of Riverstone can go to Fort Settlement MS.

None of that is true at all.

Riverstonians with the exception of a few like Swopoe have show themselves to be a strange bunch on this forum.

If you were not wearing a green or teal shirt at the planning meetings, you were pretty much shoved out of the way so they could get up front. Once the Elkins feed pattern was discussed, many shoved their way out while other feeder parents were trying to listen. There may be PTA members and responsible members within Riverstone who are trying to do right by all but there is a very large vocal group who have proposed rezoning communities who paid decades of taxes to build this school district. Getting on tv and stating they paid a "premium" to go to top schools doesn't help either. We all pay the same rate to attend these schools. Johnson and its builders may have received the premium, but not FBISD.

Then what is Riverstone resident's proposed solution?

There is overcrowding in FSMS and something's got to give. Either pushed out existing kids from the North side or re-zone Riverstone so half the kids will go to FSMS. Let me guess which one Riverstone residents is proposing.

Also, for the last re-zoning that moved Telfair to Clements, this was told to me by multiple people who were very involved in school and sounds very logical and reasonable so unless you have a better rationale, I stand by my comment.

These were the proposals I heard:
- rezone east side of RS to QVMS - this is what triggered the protests
- make QVMS an all GT academy school, easing enrollment in FSMS
- build a new school (the auditorium erupted in cheers for this)
- repurpose the FBISD Annex building for some students.

Problem is, QVMS is 40 years old. It would be a band aid fix and a gamble to make it a GT Academy only school. As for a new school, where ? most of the land is reserved and the obvious choices has been bought up by commercial builders. Another problem is CWE which is projected to reach 165% enrollment. As for rezoning the east side of Riverstone, are all Riverstonians united ? Do the newer sections care as long as they're zoning remains unchanged ? I wonder - would they support rebuilding QVMS ? Enrollment at QVMS will drop to around 35%. If QVMS can be rebuilt and another ES built within RS, this would be optimal, imo.

The bold truth that everyone skirts around is that many Riverstone folks don't want their kids going to school with a lower economic class, or at least...as few as possible. That is why they pay a premium to live there. I always wondered why they don't just send them private if it's that big of a deal.
