There are casinos in Houston. They are referred to as Game Rooms. They are not legal but they are abundant.
They occasionally get busted on the news.
They mostly cater to one ethnicity or another and you have to be a part of that ethnicity to get into that particular game room.
Most Mexican and Vietnamese game rooms will let in white people if they come with a person that is known to the establishment.
These places are robbed often so be careful.

If you are used to the Vegas or Atlantic City Casinos you will be dissapointed unless you go to L'Auberge Du Lac, by far the best casino closest to Houston. Take I-10 to LA and exit I-210 south, it's about a 2 to 2:30 hour drive from Houston. It has a nice buffet, and plenty of slot machines and tables. I have been to several of the other casinos in the area and this is BY FAR the best one. If you want to drive a bit more, head to New Orleans and visit Harrah's, although that is a 5 hour drive.

Going to L'Auberge for the day is quite easy, we have done it several times. We usually leave in the morning, get there around noon, gamble for a while, then get some food at the buffet, gamble some more before heading back...

Good Times!
