Fiberglass pools are not very common in Houston - nearly all of the pools here are of gunite construction.
Is there a particular reason that you're looking at fiberglass? Gunite is more expensive but also gives you way more flexibility.

Definitely agree on putting in a hot tub. We put in an extra large one and it's great for the kids in winter because they can move around in it and swim from one side to the other, all without having to heat the main pool.

We moved out to the suburbs so we could put in a pool and installed ours in 2013 - absolutely love it. Don't scrimp on the decking. We have 1,350 sqft which seemed like a lot but although we're certainly not short on space, we would use more quite comfortably if we had it.

Good luck! With weather like we're having at the moment, there's nothing better than having your own private oasis in the backyard to indulge in.

We're going with fiberglass for a few reasons:

-Less expensive long term maintenance
-Don't need a deep/long pool
-Install time is usually less than 2 weeks instead of 2 months
-We don't need the design flexibility of a gunite pool
-hate the feel of plaster/concrete underneath my feet

Sorry, I missed that part.

Hard to get them to change one of those.

As far as the umbrellas, it's not the number of umbrellas that is important, but the number of options where you can put them if you choose. The sleeves they set into the deck have caps that screw in when not being used. I'd put them along the edges on the south and west side and a number throughout the rest of the decking. I had 6 sleeves installed and would have had 10 had I known then what I know now.

We had sleeves put in the steps and various benches in the pool as well as the decking and you are right I would have put more in had I known better
