Okay. I'd probably advise against Lasik. It's not permanent, so why bother? Many times, the patient is still stuck wearing glasses after the surgery. As a fellow with really strong prescriptions myself, I figure...what's the point then? I'll stick with my contacts.

My mom did work with a Doc (chiropractor) who ended up with night glare after his surgery.

OMG, I love it (not) when people dont bother to read previous posts before they post. I had lasik almost 10 years ago to correct extreme nearsightedness and my eyesight is still perfect. And, since I had monovision surgery, I dont need reading glasses -- at the age of 69.

I just got Lasik at Mann Eye and I am very pleased with it. Appointments are on time and relatively quick.
and the vision I have now is fantastic. I really should have done it sooner.

I'll also recommend Mann Eye institute. Their standard price is still the same now as it was 10 years ago apparently (~2500 per eye), but they are top notch. I had mine done there just a week ago. My vision is now perfect and so far no issues with my reading either. I went to the Westgreen location and as stated before appointments were on time, thorough and without drama.

Be sure to check out any surgeon whom you're considering.
5K yikes!!!....I had mine back in 2007 for FREE. The company I worked at had not the cadillac, but the Bentley plan of health insurance. Those were the days. Now I have a crappy high deductible plan (thanks obama)

I cannot drive at night - I see halos around on coming headlights - and so on.

People with excellent outcomes can tell you how great their doctor did - people with the same doctor - can have other results.

Ask yourself why so many eye doctors still wear glasses............

I imagine that people who go price-shopping for their lasik may end up with less-than-desired results. Of course, even those who choose their surgeons based on their experience and knowledge can have imperfect results -- but, if you go to walmart-type places for eye surgery, dont be surprised at what you end up with.

because they sell glasses, contacts and yearly checkups.

The Dr's I had at the Lasik place had lasik done and gave me first hand accounts.

regardless, the rest of your post is correct. Weigh the pro's and cons and make an informed decision.

I plan to get it done next year, not sure who I will use yet. I also am very nearsighed, but can't handle monovision, but I'm ok with reading glasses.
