What is better, a house with a beach view or a house on the bay with a boat slip?

For people who aren't into fishing or boating, a house with a beach view. For the people who are into fishing or boating, a bay house with a boat slip.

My wife would want the beach view while I'd prefer the boat slip.

This is much like asking if you'd rather have a home at the beach or a home in the mountains. It's going to change from person to person.

If I had to make a GUESS, I'd guess that beachfront property is more expensive than bay-front property.

On the beach, I'd also be very concerned the next hurricane might change my beach front lot into state property.

If I were moving to Galveston -- I'd move to evia. Most won't like it. It is neither beach nor bay. But it's close enough for me and the highest elevation on the island.

My wife would love beachfront. We will probably move to a beach community (probably not Galveston) when we retire, she likes it so much. But we have friends with a very nice place off 103rd right by the bay. Really nice area, and of course they have a boat they use quite often. It is a nice area and the kids can play with the jet skis, canoes, swim, etc. They have parties in the summer and we all enjoy it, probably more than the beach itself. But if we could walk from the beach to our place close by, I'm sure they would like that too. It would just be a lot more for the same kind of place.

It's a fairly new upscale development. Has kind of a Floridian look. Home | Evia on Galveston Island

Yes, it is right by my friend's place, and is really nice. Right by the Moody Gardens Golf Course. Out of my price range though. We drive through there just to look at the new homes when we visit.

No, Seawall along the FEMA BFE-10 outline area is the highest area on the island. Trust me I know ... my house is NOT within FEMA flood control plain and requires $0 flood insurance

I stand corrected. It's just the design and planning that keeps it protected. It was elevated to be one of the highest spots. http://www.eviagalveston.com/assets/fema-evia.pdf
