So, for a bit of shark attack entertainment, I just watched The Shallows.

The main character is from Galveston, and at the end of the movie, they showed a rather pretty Galveston beach with its pretty waters.

This made me wonder where the film, both the main location and "Galveston", was shot. Thank you Google.

The Mexican beach was actually Lord Howe Island New South Wales and the Galveston beach was an Australian beach.

Here is the interesting part. Apparently, they wanted to shoot the majority of the film here in Texas close to Galveston; however, they weren't given a permit due to safety concerns.

I couldn't discover any more information about these safety concerns or who turned down the permit, but it does irritate me when I find out we lost potential revenue, and I'd guess the production company probably won't consider Texas again, or will at least remember how they were turned down.

Just saw it a couple of weeks ago and my wife and I wondered the same thing. We really enjoyed the movie btw.
