My daughter is moving to Houston sometime may-july and is looking for a rental apartment or maybe town home, hopefully no more than a 30 min commute from Baylor college of medicine. Wants to share with 2 friends so seeking a 3br/3bath. All three will have cars, at least at the beginning. She has looked along the red train line at mostly town homes in gated communities. Question is, where do people park their cars? most of these have a one car garage and no on street parking. A regular apartment is a possibility but it is hard to find a 3/3bath. We have been googling like crazy and she will be visiting again soon. I know it would simplify things to go for a 2 be/2 bath and maybe that will happen but they aren't ready to give up yet.

any ideas on neighborhoods, specific buildings, and/or parking appreciated!!

She needs to ask the 2nd/3rd/4th year medical students where they live and if they are married where the families are living if she is going to get a house. The closer the better She will have late nights and early mornings so she would need to be close during clinic rotations and of course the first 18 months of hardcore studying. Most tend to live off of Holly Hall/Condoland and if families I assume in Pearland. If they are getting an apartmen/townhome then I'm sure parking will be allocated for at least two cars.

I would think for the least expensive, closest and most functional, an apartment or condo off Holly Hall or Kirby South of the TMC, or a complex off Holcombe to the West, would be the best areas to look. There are also options new the Museums off of Binz and other streets, but I would imagine more expensive, and fewer off street parking options. Then, of course, there's Midtown, which would be the most desirable from a socializing standpoint, but also the most expensive and parking is a pain.

When my husband was a student and I worked for Baylor, we lived first in a garage apt in Montrose, and then a house in the Heights. We really enjoyed it, but I would point out that the commute from the Heights is a bit deceptive, and can be longer than you would expect because it's all surface streets and lots of lights. It was not unusual for it to take 25+ minutes to get to Baylor Main. And there were 2-3 times that flooding made crossing Allen Parkway impossible, but those were unusual circumstances.

I know folks that live at Toscano which is on N. Braeswood about 8 minutes to the Medical Center.

It has a free shuttle back and forth to the Medical Center so you don't have to pay for parking.

It's very nice. 3 bedroom is about $2000.

Typically, when there is one assigned space/garage, there is unassigned parking nearby (still on site) for residents' additional vehicles. You should call the apartment management for confirmation but that's how it usually is.
