Is that derogatory racial term OK to use here?

BTW, very few "rednecks" live in Beaumont. Its a mid sized city but as about an urban culture as you will ever find.

My kids were born in Beaumont. DH's family is still there. Well, some moved to Lumberton.

It is the most racist place we have have ever lived. Except Webster Groves Mo.

You are right. Whites are not generally welcomed in Beaumont. Most were run out years ago to neighboring communities. I am glad you admit that.

Interestingly both Crystal Beach (on the Bolivar Peninsula) and Jamaica Beach (on Galveston Island) are in the Galveston school district. For Jamaica Beach they go to school in Galveston. For Crystal Beach they go to Crenshaw K-8 in Crystal Beach (all up on stilts) but for high school have to take the ferry to Ball High in Galveston.

I love both Crystal Beach and Jamaica Beach, but for the convenience Jamaica is definitely more preferred.
Dealing with a ferry once or twice a week is OK, but if you choose Crystal Beach you will have to depend on it every day.

Redneck is not a race. It’s a state of mind and a behavior. You can find those types everywhere. The term racism doesn’t belong in this thread unless the community the op asks about would have had a history of racism

Speaking of the Bolivar Peninsula, half is zoned to Galveston schools (Crenshaw and Ball) and the eastern half is zoned to High Island ISD. I wonder which school district Bolivar families prefer?
