... for zoning issues? Basically there was a new school built near us, some rezoning happened, but they failed to include our little neighborhood with this. To be more specific, we're part of a a master-planned community, on the edge of it, and our little section is the only one that is not zoned to the schools with the rest of the development. The zoning boundary also goes along a major road, but when it gets down to our area we are zoned to go across the major road and it's like our little neighborhood is some kind of exception to the rule. I don't like the scores at one of the schools and if we are not rezoned I'm afraid we're going to have to move to a different neighborhood... which means lots of hassle, money, and leaving what's basically our dream home we built a few years ago.

Anyone have experience with dealing with school districts on zoning issues, who can give me some tips or insight?

I'm sure someone will say it's not true, but I swear Katy ISD take in account the Family income the subdivision brings into the equation when zoning schools.

I see subdivisions clear across the road getting the shaft and bringing in other subdivisions clear across town. ie; cimarron is zoned to Katy HS. never mind the fact that they are closer to Taylor, Cinco Ranch, and probably Seven Lakes LOL, If you check their website you'll see a lot of example like this.

btw: It's really bad with the elementary schools

I bet there was a public announcements and hearing opportunities to share you opinion before the final decision was made. Perhaps a small neighborhood didn't have someone who eagerly reads the fine prints. They gotcha!

Sienna Plantation in Missouri has two schools that are overcrowded. These are the only two elementary schools in Missouri City where the majority of students are passing the TAKS. I removed my son from one of the two better elementary schools in Sienna Plantation because of safety issues. With the amount of kids in the Kindergarten class and lack of Aides in the schools this was not a good situation. I would not recommend for anyone to enroll their child in Sienna Elementary.

Yes, they probably made an announcement in the neighborhood next to ours because it was getting rezoned (to the closer and better schools), but not our neighborhood because there were no changes. We needed to get rezoned but were not...

What school district? Do you have kids at the elementary school now? If the rezoning has already been decided then I doubt you can do anything to change it. You could talk to the school that you wish to attend (better if your child already goes there) and see if there is a way to continue enrollment for you child/children.

I'm in Tomball ISD and we recently redrew our elementary attendance bounties because a new school will open in the fall of 2008. The boundaries were decided by a committee of parents, teachers and admin. The parents were heavily involved. I know Cy-Fair ISD also uses committees to rezone because I have a friend that is active on one. Since Cy-Fair is constantly building the committee has been a long term commitment for her. It pays to be active in the politics of your district. Check the web sites often and if they are building then make it your business to know when and how rezoning will occur.
