St. Patrick’s Day Parade is so far still on. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they canceled too.

NCAA’s March Madness, and the rest of the season is officially canceled. Final Four was in Atlanta, but regionals were to take place in Houston. Houston is still scheduled for 2023, but it’s possible they’ll move all a year back.

Guys all these cancellations (Rodeo, NBA, MLS, March Madness, the multiple conventions) are severely impacting Houston. Houston is much more of a hospitality center than lots of city data gives credit for, and its impact will show here.

When you’re Las Vegas and have the strip or New Orleans and have Burbon, it’s easy to point out how the hospitality sector is being impacted. When you’re Houston, and you don’t have a specific major focus to point at, it’s less obvious. Collectively, all tourism based activity is giving the Houston area a major hit. From events like the rodeo, to sport events to the Galveston cruise port to the expected retail decline from the epidemic, the hit will be major.
