Buying in Houston w/in 30min of Med Center
Hi there!
I will be locating to Houston to start a job at the Medical Center. I have a big dog that will need a yard. Don't have any kids so not too concerned about schools, but would like to be able to safely take a walk with the dog after dark. Not really too handy around the house, so looking for a house built within the past 10 years. Can spend around $200,000. Have done some research, would like some input about the following:
1. There are lots of newer subdivisions between the 610 and 8 along the 288, but I have also heard of this area referred to as the Black Hole. Does anyone have any input on City Park, Regal Oaks, or Skyview (these are places that are closer to the 8)
2. I also looked along the 90 between the 610 and the 8: Post Oak Place, Greenpark, San Pablo. Then just out of the 8, near Missouri City, a subdivision called Meadow Crest. Does anybody live here or have any experience of co-workers/friends who live here? Do they like it?
3. Also looked in Pearland, specifically Shadow Creek Ranch. How long does it take to get from there to the Medical Center (at 5am and 6-7pm)?
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Midtown would be very close, but yards are small...many townhomes. If the dog can stay inside there are plenty of places to walk him safely in the evening. Commute to Med Center would only be 10 min as well.

That can be doable in around 30 minutes at those times. I live near TMC and things don't really start piling up until around 7am, and after 6pm most of the 288 crush has dissipated.

Lived in Houston since 1981, mostly in the Meyerland / Bellaire areas. We moved to Silverlake in Pearland about 3 years ago. We love it -- very safe. Many folks here are employed at the Medical Center. Silverlake is one exit south of the Shadow Creek Ranch exit.
Short of a major catastrophe, you should be in the Medical Center in 15-20 minutes at 5a.m. It'll take about 40 minutes or so in the evenings.
Suggest you check the Houston Realtor web site ( Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation). You'll be able to see what you can get for the money in various locations.
Goo Luck, tmb

Good luck, though the dog would cook if you left it in the yard in the summer.

If I were you, I would forget about City Park, Regal Oaks and Skyview. I would invest in Shadow Creek Ranch, Silverlake, Silvercreek, or perhaps Sunrise Lakes. These are beautiful areas and more worthy of your investment. Your commute would be 40 min. max and average about 30 min. in traffic.

I also live in Southern Trails. It is 13 miles south of the med center. I work in the med center and my commute is about 30 minutes. If you work an off shift, like 7-4, it drops to around 20 minutes.
I'm happy in ST and would recommend it.

The Black Hole crap is some racist s*it if I ever heard of some racist s*it before in my life first of all. Try Missouri City or Sugar Land on 90 alt only 15 min to the med center, and Shadow Creek is nice.
