We never asked for hip hop - we were fine with Janet Jackson, whomever big in the genre

they got on the Bun B train and basically let him dictate who may be free for a few sets basically - that grows old

Right. But it’s cringe whether people asked for hip hop or not . If rodeo’s response were “let’s put Bun B in every year”, then that’s poorly executed and just cringe overall. As always, I’ll be fair and say Bun B isn’t the only one there, there’s 50 Cent this year and some others throughout the recent years. But that doesn’t matter. And the whole.

When Bun B was announced for the first year, I thought it was great. The hometown acts hit different when they perform at the Rodeo. Just as the ZZ Top shows and George Straight (speaking on all of Texas). Bun B has the same sort of effect. I went to that concert and despite a boring performance by some he brought out, it was overall a great show. And thats why Bun B was a great choice the first time. The second and third, that’s just lame. Sorry. 50 Cent would’ve been great as the only rapper this year. Heck Travis Scott would’ve been a better hometown performer thought that probably won’t happen given his dispute with the HPD union trying to blame the Astroworld tragedy on him (when it’s more of their fault than it is Travis). There’s plenty of choices Jack Harlow. Or even no hip hop. Anything is better than Bun B every year with the whole “old school Houston hip hop vibe”. Smh

I actually hope that night gets poor ticket sales though I doubt it

Yeah ngl, LP, I’m shocked hearing that from you. That’s a pretty cringe take

Again, is he actually country? He mostly worked in other genres, he just happened to have one album that has some country elements and Nashville decided to make him a story.

I guess that's not really the point anyway, he's just popular at the moment.

Every album since he went country has remained country

You noted that local acts have been repeatedly featured, and it appears to someone who's not knowledgeable about hip hop like me that he enjoys elevated status in Houston, so it didn't shock me that the Rodeo has had him do the same. I guess he doesn't have current output?

And if you recall the brouhaha about Leon Bridges, there were no small number of folks saying that it was an insult to not feature hip hop instead. So that's the reason for my comment.

Anyway, I've derailed this Conroe thread enough...

elevated? more like its convenient for the decision-makers to not have to deal in an area they probably don't want to deal with and he's basically a paid 3rd party promoter - he may have a personal beef with someone we all want to see but that will prevent us from having something different

If that's the case who is the Tejano spokesperson? Norteno?

One thing I’m curious about is if the City of Conroe will trend noticeably whiter than it is right now. Conroe itself is around 50% white but a lot of Montgomery County is closer to 70% white excluding Conroe. As it annexes many areas of its ETJ that are also wealthier than the current city of Conroe it’s bound to have some sort of rebound in its white population which would be unusual for a large suburb to trend in that direction.

Annexation is really difficult in Texas now - it pretty much has to be a request by the affected property owners to the city. I doubt that's going to happen at scale for Conroe.

That aside, Montgomery County is unusual in Texas (perhaps even at the national level) for being very dominated by a conservative / Republic electorate and staying that way even as it has become a high-population, fast-growing suburban county. Usually under those kind of growth conditions, suburban areas become more "purple." It may be that the county is attracting "political migrants" from the rest of the metro and from elsewhere, and the makeup of that political persuasion does tend to be more white.

I used to think that the concept of "political migrants" couldn't possibly alter the makeup of a large place like Montgomery County, but I'm wondering if that was a premature assumption.
