Hi,
I'm getting ready to transfer to Houston and am looking for advice on neighborhoods. I'll be working at Texas Children's Hospital and would like to be relatively close... i.e. I don't want to have to make an hour a day commute.

I looked at a couple of townhouses in River Oaks while I was there last month and liked them... I've seen a couple since that are gated... and one that mentioned a 24/hr guard/gated access. Meyerland, Westhaven & River Oaks are the areas I've seen houses I really like but... are they safe? Is there another area I should be looking in? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, these are definitely safe areas. As with any city, there will be random crime, mostly petty stuff, but these areas are definitely better than average.

As for what areas would be good for you, what is your budget? How large of a space are you looking for? single- or multi-floor living? Do you want a yard or just a balcony or courtyard?
