You still never said what utility it is an easement for is it an aerial easement or a ground easement? I guarantee (based on experience) they will come in trample your plants to death and dig if they need to. If it is for gas lines/water or sewer or even telephone, it was really unwise to put a pond there. The house is 8 years old so the lines are fairly new now but as they age you may see more problems that require the utilities to come into your yard. I have an electric line (aerial) in my easement. Centerpoint destroyed a whole section of landscape just to check their pole after hurricane Rita.
